I run a 2021 Chittum Snake Bite, an 18-foot, 100% carbon skiff with the older five-hatch layout. It was originally designed as a true guide boat, with lots of storage and a big livewell, and for the kind of fishing I do, that setup just works. Chittum actually brought this layout back into production for me, which says a lot about how dialed-in the boat is. What stands out most is how light, technical, and refined it feels. This skiff poles incredibly well — it tracks straight, spins easily when needed, and is very manageable in the wind. It is also an extremely easy boat to trailer, runs efficiently, and stays dry for a technical skiff. The spray rails do a great job, and with the way mine is set up, it handles open-water travel better than most people would expect. I have mine rigged specifically for tarpon, snook, and Everglades-style fishing, with trolling motor mounts at both ends, side-scan sonar, and a few custom touches that make it fit my program perfectly. It cruises comfortably at 30 mph with three big guys and a full tank, which is all I need. It is not a cheap skiff, but the build quality, customization, and resale value are all top tier. For the way I fish, it is about as close to perfect as I could ask for.
